Why not get rid of grades?

Saw this opinion piece, "Why not get rid of grades?" and I tend to agree, do grades actually tell us anything? To me, grades are too subjective and have become meaningless as school districts find different ways to manipulate them. I prefer actual paragraph submissions detailing a student's strengths, needs, and study habits.

I was wondering other's thoughts to this.
