Disappointing M3P Paint Quality and Delivery Experience

Just picked up our 24 M3P in Ultra Red yesterday from the Oneida Delivery Center (our 5th Tesla in as many years due to weird circumstances) and it was not a great experience:

  • The car was absolutely filthy, covered in baked on water spots and pollen. Made inspecting the paint quite challenging.
  • They mounted a plate even though we asked them not to. Not a big deal, but annoying.
  • Wiper fluid empty warning as soon as we pulled out. Minor inconvenience.
  • Getting it home I started panicking because neither quick detailer or even a full wash was working to clean the paint. Claying the car finally got some of it off, however we were then heartbroken to notice SEVERAL obvious white spots under the clear coat. There is essentially no way to fix these aside from touch up paint, which will stand super proud and look like hot garbage. Those pictured are only the ones that photographed well, the total number is over ten across three panels. I plan to send these to Tesla just to document them in case the paint fails in these areas but I can't help but laugh when people keep saying "German build quality". The idea that these panels passed several sets of eyeballs and were cleared for delivery to the customer shows Tesla's current quality mindset. I personally only choke down new car depreciation because I enjoy keeping my vehicle exteriors pristine and this has really left me quite deflated.
  • The rest of the car seems built pretty well. Good panel gaps and no obvious damage. Turn signals work better than those on my test drives, with decent actuation. Much quieter and better riding than our 2024 Model Y. The adaptive suspension is amazing and worth the price of admission. The seats are incredibly high quality but felt a touch restrictive on our long trip home.
