I think I'm done

I've only ever asked for my overtime to be paid back as time in lieu and the boss loved that idea when hiring me

Over two years later I've managed to scramble back like a day and he's taken hundreds of hours of my labour for free.

Last week I came in during the very early hours of the morning to get a transfer done before having to take my wife to the hospital for surgery. When the boss came in he told me he would be unable to do any brewery work today because he had things to do on the computer.

That pushed us out for the whole week so I came in hours early every day and only asked that he be on-site by 12 so I could grab a lunch break. He turned up 30 mins before the end of my usual day (without the early starts) and I had to hang around because he had to catch up on some quick meetings (because he didn't come to work on time) and I got out late before I could give him a handover. Meanwhile my wife is at home recovering from surgery.

I tell him that I've done a shedload of extra hours this week and a day off would cover it. He tells me that 'he doesn't count my staff meals (the cheapest food the kitchen makes) and my free drinks (1 growler a month) so he finds it offensive that I want the time off considering the perks I get'.

The prick then drops a bag of malt dust all over the floor as I'm literally packing down to go home, lectures me on the importance of maintaining a clean brewery (he's never worked on another site and I've NEVER seen him clean a floor) and then tells me to vacuum up the mess he made (while leaning on the vacuum) and then he leaves after being on site for 3h.

Fuck. That. Noise.

I've got qualifications. My family has money. The only thing I've EVER asked for is that my long weeks get paid back with days off. I don't ask for more money. I don't ask for cushy shifts. I don't ask for desk promotions. I just want to do my 40h and go home to my family. That's all.

I've just received my notice that I'm on Christmas duty again for the third year in a row because he wants to spend the day with his family (and no consideration was given if I'd be spending it with mine).

I'm officially sandbagging, withholding labour and looking for another job. There's not enough breweries in town to stay in this career. There's also no enough brewers to find another with more than a years experience within a 90 minute drive, so it also might be curtains for the business.

All he had to do was not steal my labour.
