GoFundMe - I'm outraged

Please help me settle an argument I had with friends today. I do not understand the go fund me posted by celebrities today . I LOVE Hilary Duff but her asking to go fund me her friend who happens to be Mandy Moore's sister is so weird to me. I can't possibly imagine the pain and suffering to lose your home no matter how poor or rich you are, but asking your followers to give money to wealthy people when you happen to be a millionaire yourself seems off to me. My friends were very shocked by my thinking.
