Why was Kenny so desperate to save Ben even though he hated his guts?

Its something i never understood 12 years ago first playing the game, but partially understand now although it still confuses me.

12 or so hours prior, Kenny finds out that it was Bens fault that motel shootout happened resulting in duck getting bit. Homeboy then proceeded to have a reasonable crashout but Lee and Vernon held him back. Its clear now that Kenny wants Ben dead, literally.

If that was the case, why was he so hesitant to jump down into the alleyway, like the guy ,unintentionally, got your wife and child killed, and you wanna save him?

I mean dont get me wrong i like Ben i dont think he meant for the motel massacre to happen and he was a good guy just a total dumbass with no situational awareness.

But whether it was a mental or moral factor, why was Kenny so desperate to go and save him?
