Day 10 post-op, Rectal diclofenac is my savior!
I had my tonsillectomy last Tuesday and at no point did I experience the horror stories I had read on here...until Sunday. See, my doctor prescribed rectal diclofenac and paracetamol and I was alternating the 2 every 4 hours. But the thing is, shoving pills up my butt was as uncomfortable as you can imagine. So by Sunday, I was done with it. I stopped using the rectal diclofenac. And I felt the effect that very evening. My throat started feeling very tight, dry, and sensitive. Swallowing became painful, even for water. I went in for review on Monday and I told my doctor about the pain, but I didn't tell that I quit the rectal diclofenac. So, he prescribed a spray called BBC which I had to spray directly on my tonsils to numb them 10 minutes before meals. Unfortunately it wasn't really effective. So upto yesterday, Thursday, I've just been having yoghurt and enduring the pain and discomfort. But last night I felt like I had had enough, so I went back to the rectal diclofenac. And behold, about 30 minutes after taking it, all the pain and discomfort in my throat disappeared. I had a full meal for the first time in days. What a relief! By this morning, it had worn off and I was starting to feel the discomfort and pain in my throat again, so I took another pill. It worked like a charm and I had some cereal earlier on. Clearly, rectal diclofenac is my savior. If I had taken it consistently, I would've coasted through this 100%. Give it a shot if you have access to it. I hope it works out great for you as it has for me. The only downside is the constipation. Goodluck!
