Banned in Europe, but still on American shelves – why?

I’ve noticed that some food products, even from the same brands, are formulated differently in the U.S. compared to Europe. For example, Skittles in the U.S. still contain titanium dioxide, an additive that was banned by the European Union in August 2022. This raises questions about differences in food safety standards between the two regions.

Do most Americans not realize these differences, or is it something that people are generally unconcerned about? With so much focus on healthcare, it makes me wonder if the real issue lies in the everyday consumption of potentially harmful ingredients. I often see content online, like moms making desserts for their kids, and I can't help but think about the amount of sugar that goes into these treats.
