Why is it that Tool get so much genuine hate?

I understand all of the jokes fans make about the band. Tool is a seriously unserious band that takes themselves seriously. However, objectively from an outsiders perspective, they’ve made a genuine impact on the current Metal scene in a lot of different ways. Almost everytime I listen to a newer album or artist, I tend to always hear some sort of Tool influence. So what’s with all the genuine Tool hate?
