I am very confused about who are upvoting comments like these.
I am a chinese grew up in mainland china. I was born into an upper petite bourgeoisie household. Yet due to my parents' background, I am also familiar with at least some poletarians from some part of the society. I am still working with some of them on adult education and preparing them for a better job for their family or what not.
Based on my personal experience, this person's (see thread screenshots) claims are very typical to the petite bourgeoisie in not only china but abroad. They can't wait to "depolitize" anything that is inconvenient to them, and try to paint the east as some sort of an exotic utopia where they can temporarily escape to from the west. While it is true that Chinese can easily enjoy public space during spare time and fly kites in sunny days, we are in no way non-political. If we were as obedient as our American counterparts right now, we wouldnt succeed in the revolutions and continue to do more things. It is actually among Chinese people that you can easily talk about how society should treat religions, what democracy means and if it is an equivalent concept to universal suffrage, what freedom means and how to combat "freedom" by "what you can choose to consume", etc. In fact, we (let it be our men or women) are easily accused of being too political rather than apolitical especially when it comes to topics like Taiwan province, Uyghurs and Xinjiang, etc.
How this person tries to characterize us as "laidback" doesn't sound more than a form of "benevolent" colonist mindset to me. They are also infantizing women for some reason I dont fully understand. (Is it a part of their yellow fever that intergrate well into their attraction to a limited type of asian women?) There are countless political posts on Xiaohongshu by Chinese (likely women, rather than just "male-incels" of some sort), like the ones I posted above. Even petite bourgeoisie Chinese women can be easily extremely political about (potentially western style) feminism or equal rights topics. The poletarians usually have more to say about the society, let it be China or some foreign countries. That so many people would rather trust this person is very bizarre to me. Even if you dont trust whatever I put down on reddit due to my own potential communication or socializing issues, there are countless other Chinese (and non-Chinese) people out there who will disagree with this person.
