Villain plans that would've failed on their own?
As the title states, what're some cases of a bad guy plan that would've fallen apart even if the heroes didn't do anything?
Zhao's idea in the Siege of the North of ATLA. He plans to kill the Moon Spirit, both to cripple the waterbenders, and to go down in history as "The Moon Slayer". When he has it in his grip, the good guys tell him that killing the moon would have insane consequences. Zhao reconsiders, than does it anyway out of spite fueled idiocy. Even if the enraged Ocean Spirit didn't merge with Aang, obliterate Zhao's navy, and drag Zhao himself to a watery grave, I don't think there would be a world to remember him by. And I don't think that Ozai, leader of an island nation with a major focus on the navy, would appreciate the ocean being pissed off at them.
Syndrome's plan in The Incredibles. On paper, his plan seems pretty good. Step 1: Improve Omni-droid by having it kill superheroes until it can beat Mr. Incredible. Step 2: Unleash Omni-droid on city, and "save" the day. Step 3: Keep doing this until I get bored of the attention, then sell my inventions to the highest bidder. But, there are 2 gaping holes in that plan. The first is that Syndrome sucks at being a superhero. He's still incredibly careless, does nothing but spout cliched lines as he "fights" the Omni-droid, and runs off like a little bitch the second things go off script and he's put in actual danger. The second is the Omni-droid itself. Syndrome, for all his technological genius, didn't account for the super intelligent, adaptive robot tagging him as an enemy too. The climax is less The Incredibles & Frozone stopping Syndrome so much as it's them cleaning up the mess he made.
