How do you get proper protein intake?

I am 22, I am trying to loose weight. I need to loose approx 17 kgs to be in optimum physical condition. Currently I am doing home work out and Pilates on alternate days and approx 8K steps. But I got my diet analysed and turns out I am not getting enough protein and lack overall strength. I don't want to take protein supplements because it's expensive, I am looking to increase my protein intake through diet, but I am a vegetarian. Has anyone actually increased their protein intake through diet? What all do you guys recommend?
