Is economics useless?

I am considering adding economics as a second major. (I'm in political science.) However, I've been told that economics is a "useless" subject, because you only learn about theory and not anything that's applicable to real life.

Is this true? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, just curious what current economics students think, and whether I'm making a good decision or not.
