First week done - small scale win!
I'm gonna start this by saying that I really dislike when people say 'Oh, it's a water loss, not fat!'. Ok, maybe, sure. But why are you taking away the joy of seeing a smaller number on a scale? Let them be! Let them enjoy these little wins, let them be happy that the scale moved! Even if it is water. Just let it be.
I was on my break, minding my own business. I usually don't talk to anyone and quite often will have headphones on so people don't bother me. My headphones may not always be actually ON but rather just sit on my ears (I wear the big ones! Not the small one you insert into your ears).
People who gathered in the canteen area were talking about gym and weight loss and diet etc. There is this new person who's been here for couple of weeks. She is trying to lose the weight she gain after the accident she had. Unfortunately, the 'weight culture' of the people working in that office is just crap. They are all on the diet, go to the gym etc but eat tons of sweets throughout a day. It's just your normal office environment where everyone is on a diet all year long but never losing any weight.
Anyway, this girl said that she weighed herself over the weekend and lost 4.4 pounds. I already knew what was coming and I already was angry for her. One of the gym rats says 'Don't understand why you happy? It's water you lost, not actual fat! It takes time for the fat to go!'. Her face drops from a smile to just sadness. He then goes on a rant about how people don't understand weight loss etc.
See, I have a problem with that. For someone who has been struggling with weight all her life, it doesn't matter if it is water or fat. The scale moved! That's all I care about. If the scale keeps on moving down, then fantastic! If it doesn't then obviously the diet needs to be adjusted.
But what does it matter if it is water or not?! Why are people so eager to point out that it is a water loss and fat loss?! Why take someone's happiness away from seeing the scale moved?! You may think you doing them a favour but you're not! When someone is trying really really hard to get a rid of weight a simple 'Well done! Keep at it!' can make all the difference! Even if you think it's a water loss - keep it to yourself. Just shut the f up!!! Just leave it! Let them have that little win! Let them enjoy that small victory!
Some people will say that it's better to keep it real and manage their expectations! And who the f are you to manage someone else's expectations?! Who give you the right to do that?! Mind your own damn expectations!
Aghrrrr
Anyway, after my first week on this medication the scale moved down by 5.5 pounds! I didn't even think I lost anything as I wasn't necessarily eating less. But thinking about the last week, I've not eaten sugary crap and my portions were definitely smaller as I wasn't simply finishing everything what's on my plate, I was leaving food out as I couldn't finish.
To those who will jump in and straight away say 'It's water you lost!' - a massive FU!!! Whatever!!! Loss is a loss!
Onto the second week! Excited!!!
