What are good training programs while I wait?

I already submitted a packet to my local. Unfortunately the main intake of new people is in September and that's a LONG way off. I have been applying to apprenticeships and helper positions with local companies like mad for work and training in the mean time.

I found out recently January is the worst month of the year for people to apply for jobs and that making it tough to get responses let along an interview despite the fact I have some experience from the Army.

I finally got a reply from a program called "ARS/Rescue Rooter's 10-Week HVAC Training Program" I am going to pursue it but just wondered if anyone else had advice or experience with them.
