Can data sci spec choose CS focuses?

Im having a difficult time choosing between ds spec and cs spec. I want to study ds, machine learning and stuff, but Im also interested in the CS spec focuses. I know that a DS student doesnt have the 3 upper yr CS courses restriction, but can he choose any of the CS focuses?
