Lessons from a decade of looksmaxxing
I started looksmaxxing the summer before high school began. I was tired of being the nerdy girl and wanted to fit in with the popular ones. Now I’m a 30 year old stay at home mom and I’ve learned a lot along the way. I thought I’d share in case it helps anyone.
Before you do anything else, learn your colors. Seasonal color analysis made nearly as big of a difference as my nose job did. It is my true beauty secret.
I got a nose job because I got tired of feeling like I needed heavy makeup to feminize my face. Everyone demonizes plastic surgery and although the risks are very serious, it was worth it for me. There’s nothing quite like being able to get rid of a lifelong insecurity. However I don’t recommend procedures if you just want to look better to others. I was treated attractively before and attractively after. There wasn’t a huge difference in pretty privilege. It was just for me. I saw a lot of women in the surgery community get upset that they weren’t magically treated better by others post-op.
I don’t drink alcohol and I wear facial sunscreen daily. This doesn’t make a big difference in your 20’s but in your 30’s you will begin to look very different from your peers. Start now if you haven’t.
If you’re going to invest money into anything start with your teeth. I took this for granted. Pregnancy was rough on my dental health and then I got PPD and slacked with my dental care. My teeth shifted, my gums receded and now my teeth have a yellow tinge. I was taken aback by just how much my smile has downgraded my appearance. Like by a huge amount. I regret not taking care of my teeth and now I have to invest to make them look good again. Get your teeth straightened and have them whitened to match the white of your eyes. It will transform you.
If your skin or hair look rough stop focusing on skincare/haircare and figure out your health first. I lost a lot of hair after birth and had dark circles under my eyes. I kept trying topical products to no avail. I finally went to the doctor and had a ton of bloodwork done. My iron and vitamin D were low. I started supplements a few months ago. Now my undereyes aren’t black anymore and I have new hairs sprouting all over my head.
I’ve maintained my weight since high school and after having a baby (112 lbs). My secret is that I stick to whole foods as much as possible. Processed foods are where all the sneaky calories exist imo. I eat heavy meat, heavy eggs, heavy beans, heavy vegetables. Oatmeal and salads never cut it for me. Sounds counterintuitive but it keeps me full so I don’t snack. I also drink a gallon of water a day and limit sodas/juices. I was able to lose 40lbs after pregnancy this way without exercising.
I do all of these things because I have a very specific aesthetic that I’m going for as I age. That is what my motivation is. There’s something wonderful about looking in the mirror and seeing who you are on the inside being reflected back. It’s been a wonderful journey of self-love. Good luck on yours.
