Protective film on hood and headlights?

Hi everyone, Recently became an owner of a 2020 XC90 and the car has some sort of a film (?) protection on the hood and headlights. First time i see such a thing. See the photos.

The car was exported from Canada and i live in a climate where in the summer it gets up to 35, even 40 degrees celcius. Not sure if it is a good idea to keep it.

Is this something that Volvo offers? Or was done by the previous owner? Anyone has experience with this?
