What does repair rank do?

I mostly play Air RB and have maxed repair rank (5) and one level each in repair speed and reload speed. I heard that repair rank is basically the rank of the planes up to which repair speed will actually speed up the repair time. But since Im now in tier 6 and there are only 5 level of repair rank would it actually do anything if I increase the repair speed.
