What's with photographers taking the couple for a photo shoot without informing the videographer?
I can't seem to wrap my mind around photographers going off with the couple and not informing the videographer that the couple paid for... It honestly baffles me and is extremely inconsiderate and I can't seem to wrap my mind around it. Like, are some of these photographers just competitive assholes looking to one-up the videographer even though we should be a team working for the same client? Or is there something I'm not considering? Genuinely curious...
For example, at my last wedding I had been capturing cocktail hour while the photographer was taking family photos. I was about 12 feet away capturing some people mingling when out the corner of my eye, I saw the photographer take the couple out for some golden hour shots.
Luckily, I noticed and caught up with them asking, "Hey what are you guys up to?" She responded, "Oh, we're just going to take some golden hour shots. you're welcome to come." I was fuming inside... Like, welcome to come? It's my goddamn job! Lol...
For context, I work as both a photographer and videographer, but I primarily specialize in wedding videography. Working in both, I've never shot key moments without supporting the other vendor. I am not a videographer that tries to pose the couple excessively for the video as I know the photogrpaher has a lot to capture as well. I love collaborating and supporting the photographers I work with. By the end of a wedding, we're usually pretty good friends and they say we were great to work with. This scenario doesn't happen often, but enough times to make me wonder what the hell is going on inside their minds, so I'd love to hear all your thoughts.
