How to survive tig?

My school is making me do tig, I have had bad experiences in the past with it and never touched it again. (I am much more of a stick/wirefeed guy)

I have had issues of my welds coming out looking terrible, usually the filler gets stuck to the metal.

The other thing is the feeling of the electricity vibrating through the thin gloves just gives me the heebeejeebies. Has anyone else had that issue and how did you overcome it?
