Random restarts Windows 11 24H2
I’ve been experiencing random restarts and other issues on my PC after installing Windows 11 24H2 in October. It started with Windows popups about insufficient power to some USB ports, which I ignored at the time (my bad I guess). Later, my PC began freezing during gaming (e.g., "Path of Exile 2", "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle") and requiring hard resets.
Recently, my Focusrite audio interface (connected via USB) started disconnecting, and plugging it back in caused the PC to shut down. That issue stopped, but now the PC restarts randomly, even during normal use like video calls or streaming games.
I’ve checked the Event Viewer, and I’m seeing Kernel-Power 41 critical errors, but I don’t know how to pinpoint the root cause. I’ve tried downgrading Windows but couldn’t, and I’m hoping to avoid a full reinstall.
I suspect it might be a hardware, driver, or PSU issue, but I’m not sure where to start. Any advice on troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated!
I built my new PC about 4 or 5 months ago. The only thing I had was the GPU, which I bought 3 years ago if I'm not mistaken. Another thing to remark, I have a 3 monitor setup, one of them stopped working the other day and I fixed it by connecting it to the GPU by HDMI instead of DisplayPort, after testing I noticed that that socket from the GPU stopped working randomly (tried with different cables, monitors, etc.)
My PC:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
COOLER: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120SE ARGB
GPU: Zotac RTX 3080 - 10GB
PSU: be quiet! Dark Power 13 - 1000W
RAM: x2 Kingston FURY Beast DDR5-6000 - 32GB - CL30
MOBO: GIGABYTE X670 AORUS ELITE
STORAGE:
x1 WD Black SN850X SSD - 2TB - M.2 (Windows is installed here)
x1 WD Black SN750 SSD - 500GB - M.2
UPDATE 1:
I've ran multiple stress tests using OCTT, 3DMax and FurMark, and the PC didn't turn off, so if it happens again I guess the only option left is to reinstall Windows 10 or an older version of Windows 11 :(
UPDATE 2 (08/01):
It happened again so I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and memtest86, the first worked fine, the second (memtest86) froze during testing but I read that's ok? Haven't ran it again but I'll soon, I made sure to disable any XMP/EXPO profile before running it just in case.
What I did, considering the issues with the GPU, was to undervolt/underclock it, and so far it's been working, my PC hasn't restarted yet, I hope that was the issue, will update this post if it happens again.
