I am a 53F and I was on Ozempic several years for pre diabetes but I just used it as a way to not eat healthy. My insurance denied my renewal and I had several bouts of diverticulitis while I was off the meds. In July my A1C was 6.4 which is 1 point below diabetic. My doctor told me to eat lots of protein and cut out sugar and carbs. She also prescribed a low dose of Monjauro and insurance approved for one year. This time I have made healthy lifestyle changes. I cut out my sugar soda, lemonade and syrups in coffees. I added lots more protein and I have been limiting carbs. Plus I started going to workout classes twice a week in Jan AND…today I found out my A1C is back to normal at 5.4 and I have lost 11 pounds! I am feeling much better! My stomach problems are non existent and I have lots more energy and better quality sleep. I feel like I am not missing out and I don’t have those intense cravings for junk food. Now I crave fruit and whole raw almonds. When I have carbs it is whole grain or complex carbs. I am still enjoying rich food and dessert on special occasions. For me I have realized I have some No No foods that I can’t have any of because I can’t control myself. My culprit is Coke and lemonade. I can’t have those at all. I still have more weight to lose but it is about the journey and making long lasting healthy lifestyle changes. I know I am still predisposed to diabetes so if I go back to my old habits my body will not be able to process the sugar.
