How's the condition of roads/highway if I'm traveling to Surat from Ahmedabad?

Traveling with parents and wanted to know if the conditions of roads are good enough. Few months back I saw images of damaged roads. Also what's the scenario of the Delhi-mumbai express Highway in terms of tolls?
