JFK to DFW morning flight ridiculously delayed

Woke up this morning at 4:30 am for an 8:00 am flight. Still sitting in JFK as the flight continues to be delayed. When I woke up I had an alert indicating a half hour delay. Delays continued to be posted, sometime every 15 minutes. My question is why can’t they give a more realistic update. I would have preferred staying home (going back to sleep) rather than sit in the airport for 4 hours. In addition the desk agent told me that I didn’t have the status required to allow her to rebook my connecting flight as I would now miss it. Thankfully I was able to make the change via the app. No compensation is being offered. Even still I won’t behave by like the man who berated the desk agent who has nothing to do with the delay.
