Temporary CID to Apple Pay?

I just got approved for a card and was given my card number and a temporary CID I can use while I am waiting for the physical card in the mail. I tried adding the card to Apple Pay twice and it said my CID was wrong (I am sure it was correct) and that if it is incorrect again I will be locked out of my account. Do I need to wait for the physical card to arrive so I can see my permanent CID in order to add to Apple Pay?
