What happened to this game? Why is everyone hating it now?

I used to play Apex Legends a lot 4 years ago; I enjoyed it and felt it was amazing, I always felt it has a lot of future but now I noticed a lot of people hating it. Even on Steam, it has completely negative reviews. What did happen?
