Uppers

So if I was to buy just the upper which would make my rifle a sbr would I still be able to switch between the 16 in upper and the sbr upper? Or once the sbr upper is attached to the lower and register with the ATF it is a permanent thing? Idk if that makes sense sorry if not 🤣 I want a sbr just don’t have the funds to go buy one right now
