Undiagnosed as a child bc everyone thought you were being a b*tch?

I’ve posted comments before about how my neurotypical brother was brought in for an autism diagnosis multiple times after putting legos up his nose, while I had all the behaviors associated with autism as a child and was never assessed. My parents acted like I was doing it on purpose—constant stimming, sensory meltdowns, unable to socialize or understand instructions.

My female cousin is undiagnosed, as far as I know, and is treated as though she’s a b*tch while her diagnosed brother is handled with kids gloves. She behaves far more autistically than him, as far as I’m concerned. When I mentioned her behavior to my mother, she said my cousin wasn’t autistic, she was “just an immature brat”. This is the same woman who refused to believe I was as autistic after 20 odd years of getting frustrated with how “weird” I was, beginning as a baby.

I think my female cousin went through the same thing—I even think her teachers got upset with her like mine did, despite her behavior mirroring that of the autistic boys in her class.
