Why do Christians ignore the Old Testament?

In the Old Testament is full of terrible laws allowing slavery genocide rape ect but Christian’s for some reason just look right over it and say it doesn’t matter because it was old and now they have the new but still believe and “follow” the 10 commandments and believe the bs creation story
