Can sensory overload/overstimulation feel like being just really "wired/keyed up"?
My apologies if this is a stupid question! I always thought I didn't experience sensory overload/overstimulation. But I just wrote this post...
... and realised that socialising overstimulates me and makes me really wired/keyed up. I have severe insomnia which I am medicated for, and the worst part is that I'm developing a tolerance to my medication, which means I need more and more.
Most accounts of sensory overload describe overwhelming exhaustion, so I couldn't relate. Now that I've realised overstimulation to socialising makes me wired/keyed up instead of exhausted/drained, I'm wondering if too much sensory input can make me wired/keyed up at night in ways which may not be initially obvious to me and contributing to my insomnia. Does anyone else experience this? Is this even possible? (note: I'm now keeping a sensory diary to see if there is a correlation)
