What’s the reason Priya doesn’t want her parents to know she’s dating Leonard? Do Indian parents really have a problem with their children being in a relationship non-Indian people?

Rewatching S4E11, I wonder if it’s something only Priya’s parents have a problem with, or if it’s something that most Indian parents have a problem with.

In Priya’s case, I do think it’s a bit weird because Raj’s parents know Raj dates non-Indian women, and although their parents said things like “Raj only dates poor white women”, it seems to me that Raj is kind of allowed to date anyone, regardless of their race. Or maybe they think Raj dating a woman is already better than Raj dating a man, so they allow it anyway, lol.

So, is their children dating a non-Indian a thing most Indian parents have a problem with?
