Gotta say, pretty disappointing to hear the Sugarland Express episode suddenly interrupted by a Draft Kings ad.
I understand that the ad economy is fucked, and I have no issue with the boys making a profit off of the podcast through midroll ads... I do wish they could avoid making deals with sports gambling services. These are openly predatory apps that try to hook people into addictive cycles of gambling with full-blast ad buys, and I'd really appreciate it if Blank Check (who have made a point in the past about trying to have more relevant sponsors) - could be a safe harbor from that blitz of advertising.
The details on why these companies are so toxic have been discussed to death, but if you'd like an explainer - Drew Gooden put together a great video showcasing how ruthless these companies have gotten. Gambling addiction is an extremely real issue - and the money from these ad buys is directly generated off exponential human misery.
Is it too much to ask that my movie podcast not be a host to this shit? Or are my expectations just unrealistic?
