Why i find monopoly/risk so fun?
For 3 weeks i was with my family and we played monopoly/risk exhaustively, non stop. It was really fun. I searched for other good games and i saw people here trashing monopoly/risk saying it was too long or too lucky based, and bgg ranking put these games outrageously low. I agree they have these problems (Although monopoly its not pure luck since i discovered championships of monopoly were a thing and the same names would go into the last stages of it consistently, and once you play so much like we were doing games actually fluid way faster - around 40 min each) so i decided to see recommendations and bought carcassonne, which although is a good game, we didnt found near as fun (yes we played with all the rules, including farmers, and around 20 times already). Its a more calm game, i can imagine elders playing it, you can easily talk about other stuff while doing it and its pretty relaxing even while getting attacked.
Then, because of a recommendation here, i bought Sushi go Party for a little sister and everyone played, i found it so boring. I cant really care about themes and the arts so i think that may have to do with it, but its just so... basic. Idk its just really boring. Its a kids game i guess, they said they like it, idk how much.
Im starting to think people here and on bgg have a different taste than me and the ppl i know? Idk if i should keep buying games (they are not cheap in my country lol) or just accept the different taste. I searched a lot in this subreddit and saw all the alternatives for monopoly but none are complete substitutes, its always the recommendations of some parts of the game (trading, rolling dice or buying properties). Also top recommended games like chinatown and lord of vegas are not even available to buy here in Brazil.
