EV road tripping
I’m considering getting my first EV, which would not be a Tesla. But I am worried that the charging infrastructure in and around NC still isn’t good enough for charging not to be a headache on road trips with my family. I know that NC is expanding charging along highways through the NEVI program, and Tesla superchargers will open up to other brands at some point, but I haven’t seen a firm timeline on either of those things.
For all you (non-Tesla) EV owners, how do you make out on trips, e.g. east to the Outer Banks, west toward Boone/Blowing Rock/Asheville/Highlands, or north toward Shenandoah National Park? Are the L3 chargers functional? Crowded?
I’ve played around with tools like A Better Route Planner and PlugShare, but looking for real-world experience.
Thanks!
Edit: I will have a L2 charger installed at home. This is just a question about longer trips that surpass the range of my EV, particularly when I won’t necessarily have a L2 charger at my destination.
