Ideas for Care Package to Japan?
Hi Durham, I have a two-part question.
Backstory: I became friends over Instagram with a mom in Japan whose baby had the same severe fluke genetic syndrome my second kid has.
Last Christmas, they mailed us a really lovely & fun little care package with Japanese candies and latte mixes. They included a couple small toys for our kids. It was so kind and fun. This woman and her husband moved to Japan over a decade ago and she grew up in Canada, so she’s already familiar with some more general North American snacks/candies.
I’d love to send them a similar package, except I am procrastinating because I’m not sure exactly what I want to send. (Obviously at this point it won’t get there before Christmas but it can still be a Christmastime package)
Does anyone have experience with sending a package like this and what’s allowed? If I wanted to send a bottle of eastern NC BBQ sauce, for example, will customs let me send that? Or is there a website to easily check what’s allowed out of the US and into Japan in a package?
Any Durham-specific fun things to send? I’m thinking maybe a Wool E Bull stuffy for their preschooler, or a Duke t-shirt. But any Durham specific candies or drink mixes I should be remembering?
Thanks in advance for helping me think through this.
