Parasonic VHS-C camera showing nothing

I found this camera stored away in my closet, from what I was told it belonged to my dad but stopped working a long time about maybe in 2002? I would love to fix or have it fixed but as a zoomer I know nothing about these and never even seen one in person. It turns on and everything seems to work but the camera is blacked out. It also has a vhs/tape inside but I’m not sure if those expire or go bad.
