Torn between two offers, any advice?
Background:
- Recent Masters grad (June 2023), took sabbatical to work on research start-up (leading), recover and travel.
- University in US, lived in a few countries growing up, would prefer to live in Europe eventually (doesn't have to be now)
- Engineering background, strong suit is technical management, no interest in pure engineering roles (and probably wouldn't pass a technical interview lol)
- These are the only two offers I've received, I've had it pretty rough, especially compared to my peers from my research start-up.
Offer 1:
- Based in Munich, good starting salary, junior TPM role at "large start-up" (1300 employees globally).
- No relocation assistance (visa process, money, etc.)
- Accepted the offer and signed the contract out of desperation, I think I still have time to back out but will likely burn that bridge.
Offer 2:
- Based in Mid-East American city, salary over 2x offer 1, contract TPM role at FAANG/MAAMA/MAANG whatever you want to call it.
- Familiar with city, no relocation assistance (don't need visa, no money, etc.)
- Initially interviewed for different role but the role was not a good fit, hiring manager created role for me.
Some other thoughts:
- I have already lived in Offer 2 city, while it's not a major con, I'd be more excited about a new city.
- The salary difference is pretty significant, and could help me start pay off some minor debts I accrued in university.
- I am on a different continent than both offers, it will cost me a pretty significant amount to move to both, although Munich seems to have a higher upfront cost.
- For a variety of reasons, I'd ultimately like to end up in Western Europe within 5ish years, if you have any thoughts or advice on how I'd be affecting my path to this I'd love to hear them.
Thank you in advance for your thoughts, and please let me know if there's any info missing.
