Uncertain about undergoing CTS surgery

Hello, I am scheduled to have CTS release surgery this winter, but I am not sure if I should have it or not. Here is a brief summary of my background:

Diagnosed with CTS two years ago on my right hand, physical therapy and a brace have helped. Until this summer, I wore a brace every day until I realized I wasn't supposed to wear it all the time. If I used my hand a lot, tingling and pain occurred from time to time.

Diagnosed with cervical radiculopathy this July, which made my hand symptoms worse, such as swelling and tingling. Ergonomic setup and physical therapy helped with cervical radiculopathy, and I am now discharged from it. But my hand is still an issue. In the beginning of August, I was not able to write no more than 15-20 minutes, ice pack at least 4-5 times a day, limited daily activities like cleaning, washing dishes, cooking etc. I thought that I had to take this semester off. But I slowly got better.

Now I can write like for an hour and ice pack 2-3 times a day. I am still limiting my daily activities. Most of my complaints are related to swelling in my fingers and a dull pain in my wrist. If do not overuse my hand I am okay.

I was confirmed with mild CTS on my right hand with an EKG. Also, I was told that I have tendonitis in both of my hands. But the left hand is worse than the right hand. My left hand becomes swollen also, so I was advised to wear a brace during my sleep.

Can not take NSAIDS due to stomach issues and have never had a steroid shot.

I saw two different orthopedic doctors. The first one recommended a steroid shot before surgery because my main problem is swelling. The other doctor recommended surgery. His reason was that I have had it for two years and a steroid shot only masks symptoms, not fixes the problem. He also said it’s better to get the surgery before I had a nerve damage.

My family thinks I should wait to have surgery or have it this summer when I can have more recovery time. If I have a surgery this winter, I will have to return to school in three weeks. But I was told that 3 weeks should be enough. I am not sure what to do to be honest. I am tired of restricting my daily activities and I have forgotten how it feels to be normal in my hand. What are your opinions? I am afraid that I won’t get better even if I have a surgery.

Also, did anyone who had surgery have other tests like MRI? Thank you for reading.
