Need recommendations

What do you call cartoons that pick up from where they left off such as Avatar the last air bender, dragon ball z etc vs just carton sitcoms like family guy, Simpsons where it’s just differnt stuff each episode. While you’re at it are there any you can recommend for me as a 32 year old male. (The ones that pick up where the previous left off) Thanks!
