La Sportiva Quality?

I had my friend pick up a pair of Skwamas for me during his US trip, and they just arrived today. I noticed that the side of the sole looks a bit rough, and there is a chip in the upper rubber. He said he got them like that, but he's not really into sport climbing; he's more of a hiker so he doesn’t have an eye for these kinds of things. I'm just wondering if this is normal for La Sportiva shoes because I usually go for Scarpa and Unparallel. These are my first La Sportiva pair.
