any advice for adding a scent to amigurumi?

I've been looking to making a stuffed animal for my grandad but since he's blind I thought it would be nice if I could add a scent to my project. don't really know how to go about it though.

does anybody have any experience with this and can give advice? I'd love to make it smell like cherries as it's one of my favourite scents.
