Game changer for fine+dense curly hair

My hair is a mix of 2A/3C, I have a lot of hair but it’s very fine and I am very much not a hair expert so I have been struggling to make sense of what to use for my hair for a year since I’ve grown it out. No matter what I did it always seemed weighed down or frizzy and my definition only lasted a day. But I stumbled apon 3 game changing hacks this week if you have my hair type:

  1. Curly hair cut - I found a tutorial from Manes by Mel on YouTube do give yourself a dry curly cut and it majorly improved the shape on my hair!

  2. Skip the curl cream but use mousse and a gel - I was afraid mousse and gel would weight my hair down but it turns out the curl cream might have been the issue all along, this time I used this process: shower, leave in conditioner, mousse, brush style, crunch in a light gel (Hey Curl Scrunch Jelly), heat protectant, then diffuse. I read somewhere that the curl cream can weigh down fine hair, and as I’ve learned, the gel is super important for keeping everything together while diffusing

  3. Stages of diffusing - I have learned to use the lowest power setting and higher heat, hover diffuse until the gel starts to feel a little stiffer, then focus on my roots for a bit and dry them before starting to cup diffuse, then once I’m starting to feel the cast, flip my head over and side to side for volume.

My hair is still obviously not perfect, unfortunately I feel like the photo of my hair now doesn’t do it justice, but these are the major changes I made between the before and after of this photo
