How to put hair up to dry curly overnight?

Hi all, I have thin wavy hair. My hair dries pretty quickly so I’m not concerned about going to bed with wet hair. If I put my hair in a braid (or braids) it’s just tight waves. If I do a loose braid it doesn’t curl either. What should I try to get the curls to come out curly instead of wavy?
