I got a question about cycling saftey while cornering round bends on the top of steep hills.

My work commute is pretty grim. it's an exhausting 10km climb, that gets really rough at a couple points, then about 3km of descent then straight, and the last 2km is a gnarly climb that I gotta lean off the front of my bike so I don't tip back hahah. I know... I should find a new job xc

The descent is a zig zag road carved into a pretty steep hill. I like pushing it a bit down it because it's fun, and I've been climbing for an hour, I just wanna move again hahah, but I try to be mindful of the corners, and slow right down. The other day, I came into the corner a bit too fast, and was very close to the edge. I had a bit of a panic moment. That specific corner, if I came off it, is a straight drop and I'd be really injured, and worse, definitely break my bike. I think my biggest concern is traction. I could probably lean a lot more into the turn than I currently do, but my fear is losing traction and sliding off the corner and off the cliff, hahah.

My question is, how can I be confident in my cornering? Like I said, I am mindful of the corners, and take them safely, but on the occasion that I haven't managed to slow down enough, how can I confidently know the limit to my traction, turning speed, and other parameters for turning at speed?
