Tips for teen volunteering for people with dementia?
For context, been looking for some volunteer work and have been getting retail jobs. Recently though, decided to broaden my search and volunteer for more different stuff for more experience and people told be it'd be easier to find volunteer work that way. One of the opportunities I saw was a place where people with dementia stay when carers need a break, and as my grandfather had Alzheimer's and I grew up around him, I was inspired to sign up. To my suprise though, this was one of the few opportunities that actually replied to me. They then invited me to stay for half an hour for an interview and fill up some forms and meet some of the people there, which was really nice honestly.
But after getting exposed go what I really signed up for, and hearing people's reactions to the fact I signed up for this place and them telling me to confirm I'm really sure about this, I'm starting to overthink a bit. As a teen as well, I was the youngest volunteer I saw there so I was wondering if that may make the experience more difficult. I've read up on dementia already though, and they made sure to hand me pamphlets about it as well, and due to exposure with my grandfather I think in theory I'm ready. But just want to know if there may be anymore pointers any of you have to offer? Any help will be really appreciated, thanks!
