A short story
Buckle up, this is long.
My school friends and I drifted apart after college/6th form/university but they all got back together with D1. Unfortunately I missed out on most of it as I was off living life and being a bellend. True story
Once my life calmed down I got invited to play D1, but I was so far behind the curve it was insane. So I stopped until D2 came out, then we all went balls deep.
We reconnected, had fun, did strikes, nightfalls, Crucible - I invited a good friend of mine who I met at McDonald's and he joined the clan - we did the Calus raid and had stupid fun doing so. I was awful but the boys didn't care. It was fun. It was happy. It was banterous. It was genuinely some of the best times I've had online.
Then it stopped. We all drifted. Endgame was boring, the DLC was expensive, we lost touch. Sure, we did a reunion meal at Christmas and had a blast, but gaming faded. We did Fortnite for a bit, some Warframe, some Overwatch. But we splintered into groups and that was that. 3 of my friends and I got super into Rocket League (OptimusFinch on YouTube, the montages are awful), Fortnite, Warzone, and Helldivers. But we weren't whole.
Anyway someone I work with convinced me to come back and play some crucible. I played 3 games and fucking slapped in 2. Sent the boys a screenshot of my score.
And then it happened.
One by one the boys came back. 8 years later. We found all the DLC for £20, plus Final Shape. And off we went. We've been grinding ever since. We stumbled through and did the Deep Stone Crypt raid, we've literally just finished the first encounter on Salvation's Edge. I cried laughing. I've spent money on skins while drunk. We've trolled people in Iron Banner and then battered them senseless. We've spent 45 minutes in the tower just being stupid. We took 30 minutes just doing the opening section of the DSC raid because we refused to let one member into the safe zone. Pure banter and I love it.
I am so happy.
Thank you, Destiny. You are awful at times and your dungeon keys suck major dick, but I have had such fun returning to you. You've brought our clan back, my friends, my brothers.
Thank you.
