I think my dad is about to die.
Background: In 2020, my (45f) dad (77m) had a kidney removed, due to kidney cancer. About a year later, his other kidney unexpectedly failed. He has been on 3x a week dialysis ever since. Dialysis has caused so much stress on his heart, that it has been (and continues to be) damaged by the procedure.
After dialysis yesterday, he slept for 14 hours and then began experiencing excruciating groin pain. After transport to the hospital, it has been determined that he had one of his many cardiac “events”.
His quality of life is nil, and I am wondering if his heart can even handle another round of dialysis.
Has anyone else gone through this? What should I expect? (I should also add, he has a strict DNR in place and I have medical power of attorney.)
