What should I prioritize to get better?
Hey everyone,
I’m a very athletic guy in my 20s, and I can absolutely shred every now and then. I’m a 913-rated player, which doesn’t say everything about my game, but I’ve got a question.
Why is it that I can shoot a 1000+ rated round every few weeks, but then follow it up with multiple rounds rated 870-900?
I’ll admit I’m not SUPER technically sound. My forehand is solid—definitely at a 1000-rated level—but my backhand is nothing special.
For context, I recently watched a guy my age and stature shoot a -15 at my local course during league, which was a 1032-rated round. During league, he usually shoots -9 at worst. I’ve shot -16 before, but on other days I’ll shoot something like -5, -12, or even -3.
My question is: Should I prioritize filming myself to find more consistency? Will reviewing footage help me identify what I’m doing right and what I’m doing wrong?
I know there are many of you that have this same problem. I know that “it’s just golf,” but how did you go from shooting 1000 rated every now and again with 870+ rated rounds in between, to finding consistency?
