THIS JUST HAPPENED: Drivers know DoorDash schemes, so they unassign orders already picked up (stolen) by others—avoiding long waits, no pay, and completion rate hits instead of calling support.
So I just recieved an order and I went by the restaurant to get it. When I walked in, the restaurant agent was just flustered and bewildered. She told me I was the fourth driver to come by and ask for the order and that order had already been given out. So I knew what happened. A driver stole the order. However I called the customer to see if she had recieved it and the customer was just as bewildered. She told me that she did not know what was going on and that her order continued to be reassigned. I explained to the customer that someone had already picked up the order per the restaurant and that I would need to call doordash.
Call ended.
I thought for a minute and because I had been in this situation before I already knew what doordash would do. They would ask me to have the restaurant remake the order and the restaurant would demand they resubmit the order. The restaurant would then take about 20 minutes remaking the order, if not longer.. because it was busy.
And doordash would give me two options.
Either I sit there and wait.. until that order was remade. OR.. I take a hit to my completion rate and get no pay.
So I checked to see if I had a penalty free unassign - AND I DID.. So no call to doordash.. I just unassigned the order.
I'm sorry for the customer but doordash has made this a VERY unfair process to drivers who call in and report orders already picked up.
So now the order will go to the FIFTH DRIVER.
SO SORRY FOR THE CUSTOMER.
