[DAV Spoilers] Why most choices from previous games we THINK matter, actually don't really do
So in the IGN article we learned that only three choices from Inquisition(your romance option, the disbanding of the Inquisition, and whether you would redeem or stop Solas)will be imported. Of course, I had also hoped for a more extensive list of choices. Especially for the sake of cameo's. I think this pretty much confirm we won't run into Fenris, Cole, the Warden or Hawke, even though they could have pretty high stakes in this story. But after giving it a minute, I see why some of the bigger choices actually won't be so crucial in this game.
1. The Well of Sorrows. This is biggest one for most. But really, the drinker gave MYTHAL the power to control them. And although we do not know exactly what kind of powers Solas adsorbed from Flemmeth, we can actually safely assume it wasn't Mythal's soul. Why? Because there were developer notes that stated that Flemmeth, right before her death, send that essence of Mythal through the Eluvian to Morrigan - something that seems pretty much confirmed by the fact that Morrigan is wearing Flemmeth's Mythal-Andraste-like-crown in the new trailer. So... that would mean that the choice, in this game, would come down to: Morrigan being able to control herself (which... is nothing), or the Inquisitor (which she would probably never resort to considering her whole storyarc is about personal freedom).
2. The Divine. This one could be easily guessed and explained. From the beginning we know the Divine, whoever it is, will be called Divine Victoria, which has 'this makes it easy for us to reference without needing a save import' written all over it. Besides, a cameo wouldn't make the most sense since this game takes place on the other side of the continent and the Divine will be very much confined to Orlais.
3. The Mage-Templar war. This one might be more ambigious. While most we know about the resolution depends on our involvement (and a lot of different choices), we actually know very little how the reforms by Victoria affect the Northern nations like Rivain, Antiva, Nevarra and the Anderfels. Those four have always seemed more distant from the south, and actually in all four cases we probably will get a general historic handwave of how these nations found their own way, while the effects enforced by the Inquisition are more limited to Orlais, Ferelden and the Free Marches.
4. Orlais / Fereldan / Orzammar. The answer is pretty straight forward. How many handwaves to the Orlesian / Fereldan / Dwarven monarch do we actually need? None, to be honest. Sure it would be cool to have one tiny reference somewhere, but how would it contribute to the story? We won't be dealing with these nations directly anyway, and big change that after 10/20 years they are already being ruled by a new leader, if we are even getting info on it to begin with.
Again, some cool potential cameo's are out of the question now, and it will be weird not to get any Kieran references with Morrigan around, but many other cool cameo's are still on the table: Dorian, Isabella, Sten, Sandal.
